It is no big secret that most of the local members have been unsatisfied with how the Libertarian Party of Alabama Executive Committee has been representing the South Alabama Members.
Most of us felt the Governor's Candidate of the last election was an embarrassment to the party, and that the state executive committee (while made up of some fine people and good libertarians) as a whole have been misguided and inept in leading the state party and representing it's members throughout the Great State of Alabama.
At the recent state convention, all but a few of our local members boycotted the convention.
This may have proved to be a mistake, as Dick Coffee made a motion to disband the Libertarian Party of Alabama.
But due to our boycott, no other member from our area was present to second the motion.
So now, we have voted to take the following actions:
1) The members of the Libertarian Party of Alabama Southern Districts (Mobile and Baldwin Counties) hereby disband our affiliation with the State organization, and withdraw from any formal association with the state executive committee and the Libertarian Party of Alabama.
We do not recognize the executive committee of the LPA to be the true representative body of Libertarians in Alabama, and will notify the national organization of our action.
We now consider ourselves as Libertarians without a regional party.
2) We will continue to meet as "Friends" and believers of the Libertarian Principal, for spirited conversation, on the first Thursday of each month at dick Coffee's house at 6:30pm on Government Blvd.
All Libertarians are welcome to join us, and those who are simply interested in the ideals of Libertarianism are also welcome.
3) We will continue to remain individual members of the National Libertarian Party, and will offer them our continued financial support.
3) We will continue to regard ourselves as the ONLY official libertarian Party in South Alabama.
4) Considering that the Libertarian party has not been able to recruit or offer a competitive presidential candidate in over 15 years, who also furthers the fundamental concepts of Libertarianism,
We, the Libertarian supporters of South Alabama officially Place our support behind the only logical presidential candidate; Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul.
We believe Dr. Paul to be the ONLY realistic candidate who believes in the same ideals as most libertarians, and a true realistic contender for the office of President of these United States of America.
We will continue to support any efforts made my Dr. Paul to run against President Obama for a second term, if Dr. Paul so chooses.
